OUR HISTORY

The eastern Kootenay Rockies region of British Columbia came together to establish the Kootenay Rockies Regional Economic Alliance in response to need to take ownership and control of its economic future.

As a new collaborative partnership, it is designed to lead region-wide economic development initiatives, provide a voice to the economy and region.

The regional economic alliance model, as a concept, provides a means for the multitude of communities, businesses, Aboriginal and other key economic stakeholders in the region to collaborate in a broad-based economic development partnership to improve the region’s overall capacity for growth and enable stakeholders to focus more on complementary activities rather than competing directly for economic growth.

In 2005, the BC Ministry of Economic Development initiated 3 pilot economic alliances in the province; eastern Kootenay Rockies, Vancouver Island and Northeast Peace.  With the formation of KRREA, initial seed funding was provided by the Ministry and regional partners.
