KRREA spearheads regional economic development for the eastern Kootenay Rockies region. It is focused on four (4) core activity areas:
- Regional strategic planning and research
- Addressing priority regional infrastructure issues and investments
- Business retention and expansion
- Regional business and investment attraction

KRREA initiates and/or partners on activities that are regional in scope and benefits, and that fall within identified regional economic priority areas. Activities may take different forms; initiatives, projects, programs, and region-wide committees, councils or groups.
